If you are naturally on the paler side, you know the pain of body bronzing: often streaky, always smelly, disappointingly faux and rarely your friend.  I literally never turn down a sample offer for body bronzing products because you never know – I forever hold out for that holy grail of glow.

What’s different about this product? It’s makeup, not self-tanner, so there are no surprises. It’s completely blendable and buildable so it’s mistake-proof.  It’s amazing how easy it is to blend, as well. And last but not least – IT SMELLS AMAZING – like summer  in a tube. This product is amazing for brides.

Drunk Elephant Pekee Bar

In Uncategorized by ashleemillerartistry / September 23, 2014 /

I’m oddly obsessed with elephants (I may or may not have a board dedicated to them on Pinterest.) When I came across Drunk Elephant skincare line, I mean. It was a given to look further into it.

I’ve always considered elephants to be the nicest animals on earth (despite their incredibly large size), this skincare line is just that. So friendly! Everything uses minimalist, non-toxic ingredients. The star ingredient is Marula oil – a fruit elephants love to eat that makes them a little tipsy. (Hence, Drunk Elephant)

This is a gentle, multi-tasking bar that deeply cleanses, tones and moisturizes. Unlike soap, which has a pH level of 9 or above, the Pekee Bar’s ideal pH-level of 6.51 ensures sufficient cleansing without drying or stripping the skin of its protective barrier. The bar is very gentle, and there is an elephant engraved into the top. So along with being an effective cleanser, it just makes you happy.

Pekee Bar is Infused with a powerful blend of blueberry extract, marula oil and honey, Sounds delicious doesn’t it?

All products support the International Elephant Foundation – cult products for a terrific cause, fellow elephant aficionados.

What is your favorite Fall Trend?

In Uncategorized by ashleemillerartistry / September 22, 2014 /

I am digging the new fall trends, Simple and effortless what more could you ask for.

…Cherry red lipstick has a rival who won’t seem to back down. Darker, more badass, and unapologetically sexy, burgundy has become a mainstay for fall,. The easiest way to pull it off? Apply straight from the tube, blot, reapply, and blot again. You want it to look a bit diffused, as for the rest of your face, keep your makeup minimal.

…If you invest in just one nail color this season, let it be deep, dark, and a little vampiric. This shade goes with everything, including many of the cool-right-now colors (deep blue, olive green). For a pristine finish, apply two thin coats, then clean up edges with a pointy cotton swab dipped in polish remover.
Essie nail polish in Wicked, $8;

…Cover your ears for this one—literally. This season’s big hair accessory is as functional as it is fashionable, doing double duty as hairline de-frizzer and earmuffs at the Balenciaga and Nina Ricci shows. The best part? The look is simple to do (on dirty hair, no less) by snipping a pair of old black tights or lopping the wrist off that black cotton sweater you accidentally shrunk in the wash.

…Hold onto your eyeliner, ladies. take the traditional cat eye for a serious joyride. Using black pencil, paint a thin line along upper lashes and flicked it up at the corners. Keep building on the line to make it thicker. Use cotton swabs to perfect the shape.  To give the swoop even more drama,  dot chunks of the same pencil along the lower lashes. Sound a little too crazy? Make the wing thinner.

…Braids aren’t going anywhere this season. In fact, if popular hashtags are any indication, they may soon overtake the ubiquitous pony. Whether you fantasize about channeling a rock and roll princess, an innocent Dutch schoolgirl , or a Renaissance maiden, there’s variety out there that’s easy to re-create for everyone (no master’s degree in hairdressing required).

…It’s baaack—that ’90s Courtney Love kind of hair that looks even better when it’s slept in. The simplified way work mousse through your hair, then blow-dry using a round brush. Mist the lower part of your strands with a curl-activating spray, and wrap random pieces around a curling iron to form languid bends that you break up with your fingers. Finish with a shot of hairspray. (Bonus: You can wear it a second day without washing!)

…The essential foil to fall’s intense lips and nails? Skin with minimal shine. Models bared it at shows like Chloé, where makeup artist Diane Kendal made it look like they weren’t wearing any makeup at all (ha, as if!). To achieve the toned-down effect, prep skin with a nongreasy gel moisturizer, then apply foundation using a flat makeup brush for streak-free, flawless coverage. Dab concealer on imperfections or redness around the eyes, nose, and cheeks, then dust loose powder all over to set the look and eliminate shine.

Makeup Tips for College Girls

In Uncategorized by ashleemillerartistry / September 20, 2014 /

College girls are a busy group. Between a new school, new social activities, plenty of adjustments and  family commitments… All this activity doesn’t leave a ton of time to fuss over how they look much less a lot of leftover cash to buy expensive makeup. Here are a few ideas to speed up that “off and running” beauty routine for college girls or anyone who just wants to save money or simplify on busy days…

Here is a routine to achieve a quick, affordable daytime look using only 5 products and it can be done in about 5 minutes. Add more if you have the time, but here are some key basics:

Seconds to apply and just enough coverage for daytime activities. Use your clean hands for maximum blending and time efficiency. Cover Girl, BOOTS NO 7 and Neutrogena all have a range of tinted moisturizers easily found in drugstores. Find your shade and get going!

Just enough color to give you some life but not enough to keep anyone from taking you seriously. All lips need moisture and it’s easy to keep handy in your bag for touch ups when you need it. NIVEA, NEUTROGENA and BURTS BEES all come to mind. Find them any/everywhere!

Choose brown or navy – Neutral enough to be *neutral” but not overpowering like black. (Save black for nights on the town.) Even the green would work great for daytime eye definition. Simply line upper lash line and smudge with a damp Q-tip to give eyes some shape ( and a subtle , daytime smokey look) and your face some overall balance. RIMMEL Soft Kohl liners are available almost anywhere, affordable and easily smudge-able.

A simple, inexpensive mascara like Maybelline FULL n SOFT will give you just enough definition without the flakey, crispy lashes of some mascaras. One coat will do the trick. It does exactly as promised – makes lashes full and yet, still soft. Guess where you can get it…

A little bronzer goes a long way so don’t abuse it. You want a sun-kissed look, not a sun-abused one. Use a fluffy powder brush ( tap of excess) and place in areas the sun would naturally hit – your cheeks, chin and forehead. If you are concerned that it may seem ” too much”, try just applying it sparingly to the outer edges of your face and blend well.  NYX makes an affordable bronzer you can find in most drugstores.

It’s so affordable, you may even have some money left over for a cute new bag to keep it all in! If not, stay tuned for a giveaway coming soon where you can win an adorable, colorful bag for your makeup and accessories. Subscribe to this blog for updates or find me on FACEBOOKand become a fan for the latest on the giveaway!

Above and beyond anything, skin care is the most important part of any makeup routine so be sure to wash well at night and stay consistent with removing all traces of makeup before going to bed. Plenty of sleep, water and nutritious food don’t hurt, but we all know how hard that is on a busy college schedule so do the best you can.

Makeup Artist Kit Building, VERY BASIC

In Uncategorized by ashleemillerartistry / September 18, 2014 /

I know many people are curious to know just how much stuff a Makeup Artist needs to have. Now, depending on the kind of makeup you are doing and your personal preferences…  It can end up being a little or a lot.

Personally, I do mostly everyday looks, editorial work,  special occasion makeup such as Weddings. My professional kit is pretty diverse and  full of a variety of brands.

If you are just starting out in makeup, and maybe offering makeup looks for your family and friends, here are a few things I would suggest. This is a mix of budget products as well as some pricier items, but ones that I believe are worth it.  Just my opinion.  Substitute as you feel necessary.  Most items you can readily find at places like TARGET, ULTA, and drugstores. Other items can easily be ordered online. ***If you have specific brand questions please free to ask.

Gentle Cleansing/Makeup Remover Wipes/Sensitive baby wipes will all work

Eye Cream

Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

Rubbing alcohol

A good set of Brushes

An excellent non-tinted eye primer

HD Invisible Setting Powder

Waterproof Eyeliner in Black & Brown

*Gel in a pot is great

Waterproof brow gel

Lipliner variety of colors

 Lipgloss variety of colors

Lip Sticks variety of colors

*Lip colors you could start out with 6 basic colors mix and match, blend….

A lip moisturizer (Vaseline works wonders!)

Plenty of Q-tips, cotton pads and disposable makeup sponges.

Plenty of disposable lip brushes, mascara wands.

Eyelash curler, Spoolie brush, Tweezers, Small cosmetic style scissors  and adhesive for lashes.

False Lashes

A Good volumizing/lengthening mascara

Concealer Pallets are great

* Pallet can be used for beginners who cannot make a large investment in multiple shades. It is cream based and can be blended with moisturizer to make it more of a tinted moiturizer for those who do not want full coverage.

HD Foundation multiple colors that can be mixed and matched

Blush, and Eyeshadows

Bobby Pins for pinning back pesky hair;)

And if you want something handy to carry it all in, check your local Target, Wal_Mart or Craft store for a convenient craft tote.  Small clear pencil boxes are ideal to separate items (ie; Lash/brow items in one, lip products in another , disposables in yet another  etc) . Personalize it how you like its best to keep organized, cuts down time searching for products.

So, with that…go out and start building something BEAUTIFUL!

Skin prepping for your Wedding

In Uncategorized by ashleemillerartistry / September 17, 2014 /

I want to focus on preparing your skin for that special day and making sure it is ready to be made up to your prettiest version of you. Whether you decide to brave your makeup yourself or hire a makeup artist to secure the investment in those photos that will last forever, well cared for skin is essential to getting the most of our your special look.

Be sure to eat healthy and drink plenty of water in the months before your wedding. Yes, it really does make a difference. Water hydrates skin, flushes toxins from your body, aids in digestion and helps keep body systems moving in the right direction. Don’t overlook this crucial step to healthy skin.

Get plenty of rest and consider a vitamin supplement. Rest and nutrition are keys to keeping your body at it’s best, and in turn, your hair, nails and  skin as well. You not only want to look good, but FEEL good too. Vitamins will help make you feel more energized and make up for things your body may be lacking during such stressful times and sleep is essential to keeping the body rested  and reducing stress breakouts.

Limit caffeine, alcohol and stress as MUCH as much as possible. Find your zen. Nothing is ever perfect , but following basic rules of skincare and common sense will surely make it close enough.

Establishing the above listed habits now will make it easier to continue them after and be the healthy, happy woman he chose to marry in the first place;)

Now is not the time to go experimenting with new skincare products or procedures. Doing so days before a wedding could result in irritation, redness and breakouts. Plan to have any serious skincare procedures done at least 4-8 weeks before your wedding to give skin a chance to calm down and adjust to any new products you may have chosen. Special circumstances aside, daily care and once weekly exfoliation should keep your skin fresh, deeply cleansed and clear.

If you are looking to whiten your teeth start 2 weeks in advance with Crest Advance whitening strips 14 day supply. This will ensure you have a glowing smile.

Brow grooming should be done 3-5 days before the wedding. This will allow time for the redness to dissipate and if needed, only a few hairs will need to be plucked. Other than that, the shaping and clean look will make the most of your features and makeup so don’t forget this step. The same applies for lip waxing. Do so 3- 5 days before the wedding.

If you like a sun kissed glow, try using a skin moisturizer that offers a gradual increase in color. You want to look naturally sunkissed, not sun abused. Best to begin this about 6-8 weeks before the wedding.

The night before your wedding, wash face well, lightly exfoliate (lips too!) , rinse well and pat dry. Apply a drying lotion (Mario Badescu makes an excellent one) to any pimples you may have. Follow up with a lip balm a good moisturizer and get plenty of rest.

In the morning, rinse face well with warm water  and follow up with a very cold washcloth to tighten large pores and wake up your face. Follow up with your regular moisturizer. Avoid one with a high SPF as SPF products tend to have an adverse effect of flash photography. Allow it to settle in well before applying anything else. If you get a pimple, DO NOT pop it. It is easier to cover the bump than to cover the redness that will surely come with having an open sore on your face.  If you are having your makeup done by a Makeup Artist, please consult them on how to prepare.

There is never a guarantee with our bodies and skin, but these simple steps should keep most issues at bay and allow you to be your best on your wedding day;) And the end result is when you LOOK better on the outside, you FEEL better on the inside on your wedding day, and EVERYday.

Eclectic Bridesmaid Dresses

A synchronized bridal party is a thing of the past. Go for the mismatch and give your friends the freedom to choose their favorite style or pattern (and the joy of actually wearing the dress again later). Whatever your preference, this eclectic new take on the wedding party is one we can all get behind.
